The NSWRL Western Sydney Academy’s Indigenous Program is headed up by Steve Hall, a development officer who for more than two decades has sought to build and develop Indigenous communities within Rugby League.

Steve’s Indigenous program at the Western Sydney Academy culminates in annual representative clashes between the NSW and Queensland Under-16 Indigenous sides, which have proven popular curtain-raiser events to State of Origin and Test matches.

Several players who have made these representative sides have gone on to play at NRL level, however the aim of the program isn’t limited to unearthing the game’s next Indigenous stars.

A major part of the program is increasing the accreditation and training of Indigenous coaches. One of the Academy’s key goals is to achieve a 17% growth in this area by 2013.

On any given day Steve Hall will be in western Sydney – and often in regional NSW – looking to engage community members and build relationships which will see the further involvement of Indigenous coaches.

The NSWRL Western Sydney Academy’s Indigenous Program is proudly supported by KARI Aboriginal Resources Inc to further develop the game’s strong ties with western Sydney communities.
