The Penrith District Junior Rugby League comprises 22 clubs, 516 teams and 8,300 players making it the largest junior Rugby League in Australia, if not the world.
There are more than 5,000 games of Rugby League played in the Penrith region in each season, with seven divisions of Under-6, six divisions of Under-7, 8, 9 and 10, five divisions of Under 11, 12, 13, 14, and five divisions of Under-15s competing.
Because of the sheer number of teams Penrith DJRL plays its games on both Saturday and Sunday of each weekend. The Penrith District Junior Rugby League extends from Katoomba in the west to Blacktown in the east, and from Windsor in the north to Wallacia in the south.
The junior league structure consists of a board of management of 10 directors, 10 vice presidents and 4 district co-ordinators supported by an office staff of four persons. There is a general committee meeting of all 22 clubs on the first Monday of every month, with that meeting making recommendations to the junior league board - which is the senior decision making authority for the organisation.
Every club communicates with the junior league office via email and two way communication of policy, procedures and decision making is efficient and effective. Codes of conduct and discipline breaches are handled by judiciary (players dismissed from the field) and conduct review (which handles all other breaches) with both committees meeting every Tuesday night.
Penrith DJRL, like all of western Sydney's junior leagues, is characterised by the willingness and enthusiasm of the many volunteers who are involved in management activity, who are always prepared to get involved and give their valuable time to help grow and build Rugby League in the west.
